Where are you from?

Even though that seems to be a simple question, I’ve never found it easy to answer. Is it where my parents are from? Where I was born (but never lived)? Where I grew up (until adolescence)? Where I studied? Where I worked? For me, all these places define who I am.

I speak (swiss-)german because my parents are swiss-german. I speak french because I grew up and went to school in the french speaking part of the canton of Fribourg. Fribourg is said to be a bilingual canton, which means that it is split into 2 parts: a german speaking part and a french speaking part. It does not mean that all people living in the canton of Fribourg speak both german and french.
