Failed skateboard pimping

When my 3rd niece was born, I thought it would be cool to avoid the ubiquitous name tag made of wooden letters.

Instead, I wanted to print/stick/paint her name onto… a skate deck, that maybe she would use later on as an actual skateboard. The project was a massive failure. Out of laziness, I did not test the procedure. If I had, I would have for example realized that I should have removed the tape before the paint had completely dried.

First, do some doodling.

The right way would probably have been to print the wording on some kind of sticky paper, not use paper and tape. I don’t know. Again, I should have tried various techniques.

tape the deck, glue the wording onto the tape
tape the deck, glue the wording onto the tape

Cutting the letters out on the board was dumb, because I was basically cutting into the wood. Obvious, no?

Last minute changes…

It was tricky to remove all of the glued paper, but I should have. Because while applying the paint, the remaining paper detached and I panicked, thinking it was the tape.

done cutting, remove (most of) the paper

Paint it black.

The result looks pretty good!

Except, close up, it does not. At all.
